There were a number of surprises this year, but Delta Spirit’s amazing Into the Wide is definitely my favorite surprise. I’ve liked a number of Delta Spirit’s songs over the years, but never a full album. I didn’t know anything about their new album until I saw that it was released on the amazing September 9.
This is a complete album, one to be listened to as a whole. Delta Spirit’s fuzzed-up Americana, also known as rock ‘n roll, is filled with lyrics about everything from Agamemnon to their home state of California. Lead singer Matthew Vasquez’s passionate delivery invites you along for a ride and makes you believe every word he’s saying. And trust me, Into the Wide is a trip you want to take.
“From Now On” is a great song, featuring Vasquez’s classic impassioned half-screaming singing at the end.
